I will be replacing the stock unit in a 03 SD250 SC. Looking for some help with a CD head unit, Speakers, and possibly an Amp. Looking at spending between $500 & $700. What would be my best options for a decent setup at the best price? Don't need to blow my ears off Thanks for the help.
It really depends on your preferences. What kind of music do you listen to? Are you patial to one brand of audio equipment over another? Let me know what you like and I 'll help you as best I can.
I listen to a variety of music; classic rock, country, jazz, contemporary. I'm really not partial to any brand. I am leaning towards Alpine, possibly the CDA-7859-7894, or 7892. For the money it seems like the 7892 would be a better buy ? Help ? Thanks.
If you are set on Alpine, you can find the CDA-7894 for about 100 bucks cheaper than crutchfield on ebay. Alpine
No you won't get a warranty from the seller of this deck unless you recieve it DOA. Shouldn't be an issue though. I buy all my stereo equipment online and have never had any warranty issues with the parent company. So if you spend approx. 315.00 for this deck, we can move to speakers. I put 5x7's in my truck and loved them. You can buy two sets like these Alpine 5X7 Then you can run these speakers off your new deck and decide from there if you want to amplify these speakers, and/or get your self some subs. So deck =315.00 Two sets of 5X7's with shipping = 175.00 Mounting kit + wire harness =30.00 puts you at spending about 520.00 bucks. adda bout 30 -50 bucks if someone else installs this stuff. I would go this route, adn tehn decide if you want to amplify your speakers. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Where you buy the deck doesn't really matter, once you are certain of the deck you want, you should shop around to find the best price. The reason I suggested the CDA-7894 is that it has the ability for MP3 or WMA file play back where as the other two decks don't. I have this feature in my premier deck, and I love it. I can burn a disk and have over 180 MP3 files on it. If you don't burn your own CD's, then there is no point paying extra so your deck will have this kind of functionality. If that is the case, then either the CDA-7892 or CDA-9805 would be good choices. They are quite similar in functionality. So it really depends on which one you prefer more.
For speakers, I highly reccomend Diamond Audio, MB Quart, Rainbow, Focal, Image dynamics. The diamond Audio M3 series speakers are an EXCELLENT buy. check out www.diamondaudio.com
PS- Alpine decks are a great choice. You'll be very pleased with one.
Good sites, thanks Smokey. The more I look at the audio sites, the more my budget increases, not to mention my confusion. I have narrowed my choices down to this equipment;
Head Unit
Nakamichi CD-45Z or Alpine CDA-7892
AMP
JL300-4, PPI PXC480, or Diamond
SUB (1) 10"
JL10W3V2, PPI, or Diamond CM310D4
SPEAKERS
MB Quart 5X7, RKC113, RKC116, or PPI 57.1 5X7
This equipment will be going into a 250 supercab. I'm thinking of running the amp to the front speakers, and sub. I need all the help, suggestions, or opinions I can get. Thanks again all.
For the headunit I like going thru crutchfield because they give you the Dash kit, instructions, wiring harness, factory removal tool......so unless you are saving more then 50 bucks I don't think it's worth it....just my two cents....and if you call them they are really good at settin up full systems.....just cause you get their advice and help doesn't mean you have to use them...
