351w Casting Numbers....oh boy!!!
I know everyone is probably tired of this but I can't seem to figure the system out.
My question is what all the different casting numbers really mean? There is the casting by where the starter would be. Then there is the casting on the back of the block on the drivers side just below where the head is, then there is the casting behind the timing cover.There seems to be alot of mis-information out there about these castings so i figured i would try and sort this out.

pretty simple. the first Letter and Number are the most important, those tell they year that the casting started. for example:
C8-1968
D5-1975
D8-1978
E7-1987
F4-1994
what does yours say? the head casting numbers start with the same sort of info.
