I have a 2004, 6.0, Crew Cab, 4x4, XLT, 158,000 miles, I am the only owner. 2 weeks ago the EGR cooler, Oil Cooler, Tensioner pulley and EGR valve were replaced, total cost $4000.00 which included towing. Anyone have any ideas on other possible upcoming costs I am most likely to incur based on the mileage? I think it may be time to sell it.
158000 miles and that's your first repairs? That's pretty good IMO. Hard to say what's gonna happen next. Flat tire, broken cigerette lighter, who knows. You got some of the major problems fixed in one repair. You could go another 158000 miles before that happens again or you could go another 100 miles before you have to replace those parts. Nothing lasts forever and predicting the future is hard to do. If you get rid of the truck cause of this one problem and your scared of something else going wrong then your pretty much limited to buying a new truck everytime something goes wrong with it. Repair costs on these trucks aren't cheap especially if you have someone else do it. Do it yourself and you could save a bunch of money. Just my two cents. Look in the tech folder it'll tell ya all you need to know about your truck and what to expect. IMO your lucky with the truck you have.

No one has a crystal ball as I'm sure you know. But the odds are that you will have need of head gaskets, a turbo, an FICM, at least 1 injector, or ball joints. Those are the things that will cost at least $1k if you have someone else do it. Looks like you drive over 25k miles/year. I think you should sell it now or at latest before it hits 200k. Sooner than later. It won't have much resale value above 200k miles.
I base that advice on the fact that you buy new, and you drive a lot of miles.

First of all your very fortunate to go 158K with so few repairs!
You just changed the common failing parts on your 6.0 so......? You could have done HG's while you were in that far, that's what I did. So HG's could pop or the trans, or turbo, injectors, HPOP and on an on could fail? THen again it may go another 150K miles? Never know, it's a gamble to keep it, but still much cheaper than buying new one!
If you replace it with something similar new, you are probably looking at $35-40k out of pocket!!?? So if you were to throw another $4k at it and get another 150,000 miles, you are definitely money ahead. And who knows, maybe a rich relative dies and gives you a bundle, or you win the lottery, and you splurge then on a new ride. The key question is whether you have been happy with it until now. If you do the maintenance, it could give you many more years of service.
Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I do feel I have been very lucky with this truck. It has served me very well and I have been satisfied. The recent repair cost was just a shock. Also I don't have a need for the diesel and 1/2 ton with a gas engine would do fine for the small amount of towing I do.
bpounds, thats what I was looking for. Common failures and rough cost to fix. I have done a lot of reading on here to figure out what parts commonly fail, but did not know cost to repair. Right now I do not have the facility or time to do any repairs myself.
