I have a 2008 F-250 diesel superduty. I need to change the water seperater/fuel filter. Is this something that I can do myself or is it better to have the actual dealer perform the job. It cost me 78.00 for the two fuel filters. Please let me know......
You can do it your self. 36mm socket, short well. You can find them most anywhere. Sears, NAPA.
I use a just the socket for the upper one on the motor.
For the lower one I use a wiggle tail and a short extension. Lower one is a pita so be prepared. you may take a bath when you take that one out is not drained well.
I do the upper one while I turn the yellow drain lever.
So turn the lever, go up top and remove the filter, replace the o-ring on the cap with new supplied o-ring. Lube the o-ring with motor oil, screw back on and torque.
Drop down below, close lever and unscrew that one. You may have to push the wiring harness a bit to get it out.
Same procedure after as the top filter.
Be sure to cycle the key to just the on position around 6-8 times to purge the air out and attempt to start.
Should at this point. If not then repeat the cycling of the key.
Be sure to keep your reciept for warranty purposes, write down date/miles/hours and save it away.
Currently in Iraq and my dad has been driving my 2010 F-250 manual diesel 6.4 and it is just about to pass 15,000m. How often does the fuel filter need to be replaced? It's currently stock but I am looking at some "Banks" upgrades in the future. Air filter and maybe a tuner. Any recommendations? Thanks!
