It was about what I expected..10.2 mpg in our first full tank. I filled up our Excursion last night with 39.9 gal @ 406 miles. This includes an hour or so a day of idling in the carpool line at school as my wife is picking up kids. I know it's odd, but it's a new school working out the bugs.
I've been to 2 local gas stations (BPl & Flying J) that both cut off at $75. Does that annoy anyone else? I put another $19.19 @ $2.35/gal.
I don't usually drive with more than a 1/2 a tank. With a 44 gallon tank and only only driving it local I go for not having the extra 20+ gallons weighing me down. That's about 140 pounds that I don't have to drive around.

Yeah, but my wife ran out of gas a few years ago with the kids. I need to keep it closer to full.
$2.35 a gallon! Wow, where are you at? Here in southern california it's $2.97 at costco. Using their American Express card, it does not cut off at $75. I get 3% cash back only up to $75. 1% thereafter.

i still have not ran a whole tank through my new to me '00 just topped it off at half beause it doesnt cost as much lol i got 9.8mpg out of that first half a tank.
You don't even want to know what we pay for gas in Canada. Sell cheap to everyone else and then make up for it by killing the locals.
I have been running a fuel log since buying, getting an average of 10.7 since purchase over 2 yrs ago. Just got over 12 avg after 3 wks holidays, and $900 in fuel costs, in the 2400 mi range. That is all a mute point tho, because we usually average 1 tank a month in the non holiday season, just don't ask for the mpg on those cuz it aint high.

How can you run out of gas?
1) the overhead tells you miles to empty
2) If its gets to low a chime will sound and an idiot light will come on.
3) There is this round looking thing on the dash board that has a needle on it that tells you how much gas is left.
My brother always ran out of gas and then would burn up the starter trying to start it again. Fill the tank and replace the starter was his motto. :-)
Why do you guys keep brining this up ? It is a SIMPLE, SETTLED question that I have explained several times before.
Why in hell won't you guys LISTEN. I will explain this ONE more time - it is a SIMPLE formula which applies to ALL of you without variation. Take good notes this time..and GET IT RIGHT !
I look at it this way. You pay now or you pay later. Might as well pay when you can find it the cheapest. Most of the time that means a full fill-up when the tank gets less than 1/4 full. The most I've ever put in is 40.8 gal. It was rather low but the "low Fuel light" was still out and the Lie-O-Meter said I had another 85 mi to go.
Not sure it makes a difference, but I buy Diesel and have never had the problem w/ cut-off at $75. Here in TX (at least where I go which are the Murphy Oil stations at WalMart, Kroger, etc. because I get 10 cents a gal off there) the cut-off is at $125. Of Course if Fule is over $3 a gal that would be a problem but we've been getting Diesel for around $2.65 a gal
