94 ford f-150 5.8L W 4x4
ok first this started off as fuel pump to fowled spark plugs. but we found out today that its a timing problem due to a stretched timing chain. and which makes sense cause my truck has 200,000 miles on it and im not easy on that poor motor lol. but started taking it apart today and we can not seem to get the center bolt off the harmonic balancer we used hitting the wrench with a hammer and than the impact wrench than to hitting the bolt with penetrating oil and let it sit for an hour than hit it with the impact wrench and still nothing its not letting go what else do i need to try
engine is still in truck
To stop the motor from turning put the tranny in gear (park if an auto) and set the e-brake, or you open the inspection cover on the flywheel (flex plate) and wedge something into the ring gear and have somebody hold it in place.
Or just use the right impact. It'd come off easy as pie without having to hold anything.
I don't recommend turning the engine against the pawl anyways...
its the big craftsman i talked to some mechanic and he said to just turn up the compressor out put psi its not going to hurt the impact so im going to try that in a min
i believe the crapman impacts are only rated at about 275-300 ft/pds... mine didnt even have enough oomph to turn the balancer bolt on a dodge neon, just gotta upgrade to a more powerful one.... harbor freight has the 'central pneumatics "earthquake" series' which says its good to 625 @90psi
is there any chance that the bolt is left hand thread and we have no money to spend to upgrade and any one in the mcminnville tennessee area be able to maybe let me rent one
any other ideas
