Question Tuner Help - Need Info

Hey everyone.

So gauges and a tuner are next on the list. I want to get the 4 pod mount and some ISSPRO's or maybe AutoMeter's that have the same look as the stock lighting and gauges in my truck. Anyone have pics of their gauges that match the stock theme? If so, what kind are they?

Ok, as for the tuner. So I am definitely going to get a tuner. I want a big HP and torque jump. But here is the catch. I dont want to have so much power that I fry my tranny really fast or anything. What do you guys all suggest? Is there a tuner that doesn't drastically reduce the life of your tranny? Maybe even get like a DP tuner and run it on a lower stage most of the time unless i'm really getting into it? what do you think? My truck has done some towing but not all the time and when it has, it really hasn't been massive loads. The previous owner was my father so I know that as a fact. The tranny has not been worked super hard.

Also, i am thinking that I want to get all of my tranny seals checked out just to make sure it's all ready for the tuner.

Any input helps.

Thanks

I would look into doing a few tranny mods.

I've been running a DP-Tuner with 12 tunes for over 2 years and probably 25K miles on a stock tranny with no issues. Only tranny mod is a sonnix shift kit. I tow my boat all the time and 26ft TT often. Tranny mods are always a plus but you should be fine without them.

Isspro's have been everyone's choice when wanting gauges to match their factory ones.

X2 what Chris said above. I got the first series Isspros's, the EV series and after almost 2 years, they work great and match perfectly. Here's mine, no nite time shot though but they match.

Isspro EV2's here as well, not only because they match the factory instruments and are a quality product, but they are manufactured locally in Oregon. I like knowing my money stays close to home supporting small business. I got these through Clay so it's like getting double support if I have any questions or concerns.

Question

Sweet. Those look great. So you got the EV2's with the black background, the red pointer, and the green backlighting? Just want to make sure. How much were they each? I am looking to do the 4 pod pillar mount with (top to bottom) Trans Temp, EGT, Boost, Tuner.

So here are are examples of what I want (unfortunately one of them is on a dodge) :

This one is basically what I want. The backlighting on it doesn't look very green in this picture but I'm sure it is. I do want the green backlighting.

Daytime

I also really like the look of these autometer cobalts. The only issue is that they wouldn't match my stock gauges. But they would match the lighting on my stereo deck. So I'm kind of on the fence with this one. It's sweet how the bezzle lights up too. Help

So Mike. Those are ISSPRO EV's with black face, red pointer, black bezel ? Where did you get them? RiffRaff only carries the EV2's and the Performax. Are the EV2's that much better than the EV's ? Is it worth the extra cash? What is really better about them?

And should I get a pyro that goes from 0-1600* or from 0-2000* ? Trans oil temp from 100-280* or 140-320* ? Boost from 0-30, 0-40, 0-60, 0-100 PSI ?

They also have pyro, trans temp, and boost #1's and #2's for the EV2's. Whats the difference?

Getting back to the tuners, the tuners will increase your presure of your transmission, while chaging your shift points. By increasing your presure, there should be less clutch wear. If you are going to do tranny mods, do them first. Reason for this, if you are not tunned for them, you could take a heck of a beating when changing gears. You would then send your tuner back to be retunned. This, would cause grief, because you wouldnt want to drive a stock truck again. Or you could buy the F6 from DP, and do all of your tunning over the internet, and wouldnt make a difference which way you went first.

I see. Well in that case. I may want to do some tranny mods. Maybe a shift kit? Any ideas on what kind or links to threads? I'll go search for some. As for this F6 from DP --> You can get it programmed online? Is this difficult? So basically you just input everything you have on your truck and it tunes accordingly?

Give me a call and I can answer your questions. We don't have EV's on the site because everyone is automatically drawn to them on price point and they don't usually bother to notice that they are mechanical/amp boxes. They are also incandescent backlit, and take more wiring to install.

You can buy a valve body from a couple of different people, but I believe most go to BTS for one. I will see if I can find something here for you. http://www.brianstruckshop.com/

For the DP question, No, it would seem that Jody at DP has had just about every experience with the 7.3 imagined. So, if you tell him you have a Valvebody, he has a setting for it, if you have injectors, he has a setting for it. After the complete "interview" of your truck, a tune would be created. You could then have it emailed to you and you load it on to your truck..Others can do this as well, but I use DP, and am a big fan of theirs.
