Questions & Tips

Hi All!

It's been a while since I last visited (for posting a new thread, anyway) so I thought I'd stop by and ask a couple of questions and offer one or two tips.

The Questions:
Does anyone have any info regarding a tent option for Ford pickups? I recently bought a second-hand OEM tent for 25 bucks CAN that's supposed to fit inside (or on top of) the bed. I got the tent, poles and storage bag, but no manual.

Secondly, was the 5.4L a special order option with the 97's? My 1997 Ford sales brochure doesn't show that engine being available for either the Flareside (my truck) or the Styleside.

The Tips:
While most new aftermarket mobile audio units come with a port for MP3 players, some of you may be just thinking of upgrading your factory stereo with a CD player. I say 'Forget that', and go with a DVD player that can play burned MP3 discs. Why? 'Cause you can burn 700+ mp3's on a blank DVD as opposed to, what, 15 songs on a commercial CD? I have three burned DVD's containing 2200+ songs!! Who needs to listen to the radio anymore?!

When I was thinking about putting a Cold Air Intake kit on my truck I was told by numerous sources (professional and otherwise) it would negatively affect the (required in Ontario, Canada) emission tests. Well, I've had two tests done (every other year) since installing the kit and my truck has passed with flying colours. In fact, the last test results were better than the first!! Go figure!

Thanks for answering my questions, and I hope the tips prove to be helpful.

The 5.4L came out late in the '97 MY, mine was built in Feb. of '97 but I am not sure when they first started putting them in the trucks. When was yours built?

who wants to litsten to cd's anymore, always skipping and getting scratched. not to mention you cant see which song is next unless you have a screen but then not all songs come with the info so you have to put it in. my ipod has almost 2 days of music from which i can pick and choose from. i got a radio from wallmart for about 100 bucks that compatible with an mp3 player. also they make a harness for a factory radio to play an mp3 player. so just throw out those old cd's and get with the new age.

good tips though, alot of people dont know that an mp3 file is only like 3mb unlike a normal song file. but some mp3 dont contain all the information like song title and junk. as for the cold air intake, i picked one up off of ebay for 65 bucks and its just as good as a k&n brand. plus i did notice a little more pep in the throttle after a new throttle body and spacer. no problems with passing inpection down in texas either
