I'm new to the forum and have spent the last hour reading other threads about the sticking door latches. I have an 02 Excursion Limited 4x4 w/ the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel. My drivers door sensor is apparently stuck in the closed position as the interior lights and running board lights no longer operate when the door is opened to enter the vehicle and the radio stays on when the door is opened to exit the vehicle.
I have tried the WD-40 trick and haven't had any luck getting my sensor "unstuck". The sensor is apparently in behind the door latch but can it be seen without dismantling the door? Is there a schematic or drawing that shows the sensor in the door? Does anyone know the part number for the sensor in case I have to replace it?
The door ajar sensor is on the latch mechanism. I just had one of mine apart to replace the lock motor. The switch maybe bad or just stuck. I would assume that it is a removable part. Take the latch mechanism off the door and see what you got.
Remove the door panel.
Remove the exterior door handle.
Remove the Linkages and wires. There should be two plugs one for the door ajar switch and one for the lock motor. It is a mild pain in the rear and something you should not do unless you have had some mechanical experience. You can remove the lock motor off the latch mechanism but there is a plastic locking piece you need to push with a screw driver. Ther is a pin switch on the latch mechanism that should come off.
