F350 6.2L Towing 10k Lbs Video
#31
Wow, I just saw this thread!
Mike, that truck does an amazing job with that much weight!
For comparison here's a vid of my 6.4L doing 0-60 with 11,000 lbs behind it.

I counted your 6.2L 0-60 in 17 seconds, my old 6.4L did it in 22 seconds.
So much for the PSD "advantage!"

So far I really love it. A bit disappointed about a loud whining noise on cold starts that Ford is telling me is "normal", but otherwise it's an amazing engine.
I've seen as high as 22 MPG on the highway, but I seem to normally be around 19-20 for the kind of driving I do. Haven't had the chance to really load it up and see how it tows yet, but I'm hoping to soon.
I almost went with the 6.2L when I bought this one, I didn't because of the fuel economy difference. The 6.2L would have been a great engine for me though, as $8K can buy a lot of gas!

Mike-
The truck you used in your video, is that with 3.73s or 4.30s gears. I drove a 3.73 6.2 last week. Just thought it lacked a little gidde up off the line. Guess I'm used to my tuned 6.0 diesel though. I thought the truck was impressive at highway speeds, and locked it into 5th to get a feel of what 4.30 gearing might feel like on the highway.
I'd be pulling 8000 - 9000 lbs. most of the time, although I do take some trips triple towing the boat behind the fifth where I'd be around 12,000 or over.
I really think I'd be happy with this set up, with 4.30 gearing, especially probably need it since the wife really enjoys camping in the Mountains. I'd probably kick myself if I went for the 3.73 towing in the rockies.
The truck rode excellent, the steering is a great improvement, and I gotta admit, I liked the quiet truck (under the hood)!
Milage isn't that much worst than I had with my 6.0 this last trip out west, and even at that with the price of Diesel I'd be ahead most likely.
Thanks,
Chris in Minnesota ( Still debating, should I or shouldn't I order?)

Hi Chris
Thanks for the post, Our truck has 4.30 gears in it and its my opinion that if you order one get this gear set... Keep in mind this thing has 6 gears and when in 6th she still is lugging pretty good with these gears. For the giddy up off line the 4.30s help and the tune helps a ton.. Like you said too the steering and ride is much improved over past SD trucks. I say go for it and order one up.

Any ideas for weight? If I can come up with enough weight I'd be happy to do another video.

No prob. It'll come in time. I think you'll see a big improvement compared to the 08.

I would like to see as well. If your ever in the Myrtle Beach, SC area let me know. The 6.2L I would think will tow your camper just fine. The 6.2L makes more usable HP than the 3v V10 but does not have the torque as the V10 also the 6 speed tranny is a solid improvement over the 5 spd. The 6.2L is a great middle ground if you dont tow those heavy loads on a daily basis. My Opinion of course. I also suggest anyone that does order a new 6.2L SD to get the 4.30 gear set.
I'm looking to get a new 6.2 but can't find any with the 4.30's in the config I'm wanting. Main reason I want the 4.30's is so that it doesn't shift all the time. Plus it will have a little extra grunt when I pull heavy. Anyone got any numbers on the mileage difference between the two gear sets? Seems like there are so few 4.30's around it's hard to get an answer.

I think it's real hard to compare because on driving styles terrain & usage. But I have been watching the guys with 4:30s and I think they get the same as my 3:73s in most cases. If you run highway all the time you could see a difference but with the 6 speed I think the mileage be about the same.

Byram is right hard to get an exact diff in mileage. The 3.73 do set up to get better economy i would think no more than 1 maybe 2 mpg as a guess. Also on another thread Front Runner noted that in 5th gear he is turning about the same RPMs as I am in 6th gear at 65 mph... very good info there when towing ... he has 3.73 and i have 4.30.
