Hot Slow/No restart problem. Request for advice.
Truck: Sept. 04 production date 6.0 PSD (I am original owner, do own maintenance). Original programing. The truck has run so well, it did not want to get it reprogramed. Stock except for ERG delete (via dummy EGR). Currently, 95k on the clock. Engine has run fine, only issue was a cracked wye pipe that I did myself. Currently, batteries are 6 months old. Conductance test basically at rated CCA. All connection clean & corrosion free. Good cranking speed.
Within the past 4 months, often the engine will not restart, usually when hot. It appears to be happening more frequently. The cranking speed is fine. It will usually start after excessive cranking. If I disconnect the batteries, dissipate the residual charge, & reconnect, it will usually start right up, as normal. Instinctively, I think this is telling me that it is electrical, sensor related, or programming related. Usually, the truck will cold start just fine. I am not getting any codes or check engine lights (cels).
The fuel filters are 1 month old. The removed once were visually clean. I usually add some Diesel Kleen on most refuels.
On Edit: When running. The truck runs fine. No other issues. Excellent fuel milage, good power, smooth idle, no surges/stumbles/etc.
I have been told by others varying reasons for the no start which range from the injection pump bleed down (but then it would be slow initial start), to ERG cooler related from running to hot, to program related that one of the reflashes addresses the issue.
My search here tells me that it is more than likely ICP related. I am inclined the try the ICP prior to the reflash, cause once I go down that path, there ain't no coming back.
Any advice or suggestions from others who have had & solved similar issues in the past would be greatly appreciated. I usually subscribe to the "If it ain't broke, Don't fix it" school of thought.
Thanks in advance.
