I have an 01 e-250 van with some unusal noises coming from the front suspension when turning at parking lot speeds. I also feel a roughness in the steering wheel with the noise. This noise and roughness is most pronounced when turning to the right over an uneven surface. The van is going to the dealership tomorrow and I am hoping this a warranty item. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
What is the problem?
I did read a TSB with these symptoms but the bulletin did not mention the problem or the cure. I have only 11,500 miles on the van. It seems premature to have frontend problems.
Thanks.
Most likely it is the lower steering shaft. Ford has a updated one available and it is covered by the basic warranty. Could also be a loose tie rod adjusting sleeve. Also the vans have a small problem with the front bumper nuts working loose causing a creaking noise going over bumps or turning in a parking lot. The ends of the frame twist a little and rub against the bumper.

You were correct in your assessment of the noise in my front suspension. The local Ford garage replaced two steering shaft assemblies.
The service was good and I'm happy.
Thanks.
