I just purchased my wife a 2004 Dodge Stratus and am going to be giving it a tune up this week. I am curious though, with my truck I always use Motorcraft Spark Plugs and in her old Cavalier I always used AC Delco spark plugs. So what is the Dodge equivelent of Motorcraft/AC Delco? I know that they have Mopar parts, I've seen their oil filters in Wal-Mart. Though I have never seen a Mopar spark plug.
Oh and one last thing, do you gap spark plugs anymore? I always have gaped mine to the prescribed amount. I was told by the guy at AutoZone last night that you do not gap spark plugs anymore, they come pregapped? Sounds a little fishy to me.
I don't recall there being a Mopar specific spark plug, I believe they used Bosch. Some spark plugs are not adjustable as they have no electrode, or 2, 3 , or 4. The ones I buy always have one and it is adjustable. Yes they do come pregapped, but every car is different so I double check to make sure it is at the gap I need. I use the copper plugs and have had no issues with them yet. I don't think platinum gives you any more power, but they last longer. And the multiple electrodes seem to have a less intense spark so that makes me think it would have less power, maybe I'm just crazy.
Mopar has used Champion Spark Plugs since the 60s that I can remember. My 02 Dakota had Champions from the factory as did my Jeep GC 5.9 Limited.
Allpar.com is a great site for Mopars. I belong to that site. They have a history of Mopars that is second to non. I wish this site had the history of Ford even half of what Allpar.com has on Mopars.
Yep, I was going to say Champion. Copper plugs are still very much adjustable, it is the platinums and iridiums that you don't adjust. If you system originally spec'd copper, use copper. If it was spec'd plats, stick with plat's, you will not like it if you don't...
