I have a 302 in a '79 F-150 custom I just bought at auction. I'm told the engine is "built" but I don't know how much. No roller rockers, but it may have been running nitrous - valve, switch & tubes still present - heads are cut and ported. 9 inch drop out custom rear end, C-6 "street fighter" tranny with a Hurst/B&M reverse lock out floor shifter. Mustang scoop on hood had a round stack showing in some pictures of the truck. The truck was stripped of it's wheels, all wiring, hoses and lines and it's coolers, intake and carb.
I was looking at an Edelbrock Performer, but wondered if the direct port paths and higher drop of the Edelbrock Torker 289 / 302 Ford Hipo Mustang intake would better suit this engine.
I haven't measured the compression yet but am told it's moderately high, so I'm not sure of what carb would provide the volume for the Hipo intake.
Exhaust is Flowtech headers to 2 inch into open resonators with 2 inch drop outs - no restriction.
The Torker operates most efficiently at higher and is not as streetable as the Performer. If you're staying on the street, I'd opt for the Performer. If you are going to the dragstrip operating at higher RPM, check with Edelbrock's tech guys, they'll be able to tell you if the Torker is suitable for your application.
Thanks! Definitely on the street. No racing whatsoever - I'm actually considering if I will just sell all this "race" stuff or trade for a stock Mustang 5.0 engine. I'll give Edelbrock a call. Thanks again.
