Question Diesel World article

Have you read the article in the Nov issue yet? Says the real problem of the egr cooler is in the oil cooler and if the egr is dirtly looks bad you need to R&R both at the same time. They do not recommend the OEM pieces either but those from Bullet Proof Diesel.

Sounds good to me, but if this was to be done to be proactive, would the addition of the bigger regulated/return fuel lines be a good idea at the same time?

I have around 36000 on the motor so is the 50000 timeline pretty factual or what? This is for an 04.

That has sat for a LONG time if it is an '04 with only 36,000 on it. I'm sure the turbo needs to be removed and checked/cleaned as the vanes are prob rusty as well as EGR/Oil cooler work. Have you installed the coolent filter on it yet?

no on both cases, I am in AZ and dont have the rusting issue that you folks do. I have talked to some and was told that out here it is carbon that bothers the turbo if you dont run em hard at times. Just returned from a trip with lots of hard mountain pulls with no problems. Looks as if you R&R the EGR eith the newer type of AM parts that the filter may not be necessary.

This just verifies what I thought all along. They are only 2 years or so behind the times. The Bulletproof Diesel recommendation should come as no surprise, they advertise. I quit reading those rags years ago, all hype and nothing new.

I take what ever Diesel World/Diesel Power/et al publish with a grain of salt, at best.

Before I bought my F350, my first diesel truck, I was reading all the diesel truck rags and had a wishlist a mile long of performance mods/upgrades I was going to do.

After I found this website, I threw that first list away and made a list of mods I wanted to do that would improve the reliability and durability of my truck.

Reliability mods aren't as expensive as the horsepower mods and much more benificial in the long run.

Just my two pennies.
