OK, I've been reading a lot of posts about the CPS and trying to piece this all together and sum it up in my small brain. My truck does not die or sputter at all. What does happen is my tach bounces around a bit and my truck gets very doggy from 40 to 50 MPH. I thought it was the big tires with the stock 3.73s, but it does the same thing with the stock tires as well. My buddy swears both these problems are from the CPS. Is he right?
Is it only between 40 and 50mph? I have has three cps go bad. All have had different symptoms. One died when at low rpm's with a load. One died at freeway speeds then restarted on it's own about three seconds later. The other died at freeway speeds until I stopped put it in park and restarted. Then it died again within a mile. Only being doggish at 40 to 50 sounds like it would be something else to me.
Yes its only between 40 and 50 mph. The more I think about it, its strange because it did it at 40-50 with my stock tires and my 37s and I didn't recalibrate the speedometer so it was reading the 37s even with the stockers on.
Right, but why would it do the same thing at 40-50 MPH on my speedo even though I know that its reading the wrong speed. The speedo is correct with the 37s, so we know the reading is off with the stockers. Why would it still act up at the same speed on the speedo, when the tires are turning at a different speed? I might be dumb and missing something here...
Because your actual speed changes with the different tires doesn't mean your drivetrain speed changes.
So say at 65 mph with your bigger tires you have dialed in that you are actually doing 65mph and we will say your drivetrain is turning at 1500rpm.
With the smaller tires doing 65mph on the speedo you will actually be going 61mph down the road but your drivetrain will still be turning at 1500rpm same as before. Only thing changing is your actual speed going down the road not the drivetrain speed.
