Dave, thanks for your reply. But guess what. The unit does not pull out. If you take the screws out, it is mounted behind the dash, so it goes toward the firewall. The ash tray is below it, so you can't see anything.Even if you take the ashtray out the plastic dash still hides it. I'm not getting anywhere.

You're gonna have to pull the dash pad off,or remove the radio to gain access to the back of it.When I did it,removing the bulb socket was easy,but putting it back in was another story.I suggest getting a mirror and flashlight and using those to locate it so you know what you're looking for and it's location.It's directly in the center on the back of the control panel,as Franklin said.

Thanks guys. The photo really helps. It's wonderful to be a part of this forum. The knowledge base here is amazing.
I'll do the bulb change when I install my original Ford radio and Ford radio installation kit, which I found on ebay. The install kit came with door speakers, wiring, brackets, and instruction sheet. All in a Ford box.
