66 suspension swap

OK guys,
I have a 66 f 100 project I'm working on it currently has a 351m with a fmx looking at swapping it for a c6 I have in storage.
What I really want to know about is swapping out the front and rear suspension for a newer set up for front disc and possibly rear disc as well.
Do I need to just change the spindles or would I need to swap the I beams as well?
Currently the front sags due to the weight of the v8 on the factory 6 cyl springs so they have to be replaced as well(its killing tires due to the camber being off but I love the rake its got)
any suggestions?

Everyone is going to tell you to check out the crown vic swap. As far as the rear end, a simple disc conversion or you can go super custom and swap out for a independent mustang rear from an 01-04 v8 which are easy to find and usually pertty cheap.

yeah I have looked at the crown vic swap but I'm not sure about cutting my frame, cutting and welding are not my specialty plus lack of tools and money to source it out.
I was looking more at an I beam swap or spindle swap and if anyone had done this I know some of the king pins changes in size over the years but I am not sure if I could interchange or not.

you can swap the front spindles from the next gen truck with disks. they are a dirrect swap. (did it to our old one) and as far as the rear end. you do not want the mustang IRS. you want the mark8 or vic rear end as it is a little larger. do not have pictures but if you plan on factory sized wheels the one that i have seen in person that was from a 99 cobra it set inside alot where as the other is just a bit wider

buy i beams and spindles with brakes from 79 back and they wil fit in just fine. i just changed my spindle and had to bend i beams quite a bit to get the camber right. also buy 66 springs for a truck with the 352 and you should be good to go. the 352 is heavier than your small block so you may have to adjust for that. as far as the rear suspension i just bought new leaf springs and got rid of the overloads as im not going to haul anything. while you are at it replace the steering gear with ford ps from 79 or older 2wd and get your ps in place if u dont have it already!

Not everyone will tell you to install a panther platform suspension.

Disc brakes are not needed on trucks as the brake bias upon activation is about useless for a disc in the rear. If you really need there are kits for the nine inch. Stay away from the POS expensive to fix early disc rears, unless you are a glutton for punishment ford purist.

thanks for the info guys when I was talking about the cutting/welding on the crown vic swap I didn't realize there was a late model bolt in, I was thinking of the mustang 2 swap.
I found the posts on it and boy am I stoked on that. I have done some body mods and that looks like it is something I could work through. Its definitely interested me.

I love the years of know how and experience the people in this forum have. I will definitely be asking lots more and getting more ideas from here.

the only thing about the cv swap is it takes quite abit of cutting to get the old x-member out of the 65/66 frame but to me it will be well worth it when i get mine done + i used the old cop seats and the old cv steering column i made it all work i had to find american to metric fitting for the brakes lines but it will all work

Which 1966 352 springs might these be? Ford offered THREE different load rates for F100/250's (1055# / 1175# / 1250#).

And...there is no such thing as a 66 spring. 1965/71 F100/250 2WD's use the same front springs, there are different load rates and the springs are right/left specific.

You have to measure the wire diameter to determine what the load rate is.

It isn't just Crown Vic's. I cannot believe that you cannot find anything, since Ford has made the same basic cars since 1979!

'Panther" platform: 1979/81 LTD / 1982 thru today Crown Victoria / 1979/2010 Mercury Grand Marquis / 1980 thru today Lincoln Town Car.

Thru 2002, the Ford and Merc's had recirculating ball P/S.

2003 and later have rack and pinon P/S.

I meant the 03-07 that have the kmember. most places will not sell the complete unit they want to price it out part by part. when some of the guys first started doing the swaps the whole front ends were going for 600-800

Panther platform reference is for 03 up Crow vic/Gran Marquise with the aluminum removable cross-member. The earlier units are not separable.

$600

I have $600 in my front suspension from a 2004 Mercury GM. I looked for a while, and finally found one complete at a salvage yard practically in my back yard. I am still looking for a complete Lincoln Mark 8 for the IRS and engine, but have a few prospects...
