ECT temp question..

I was wondering what ECT temps people are running while towing up hills. On the flats i am between 194-200, when I go up hills I have seen temps as high as 224. I never reached these temps with my 04 f150 pulling the same trailer up the same hills.

194-200 is about normal. Clutch fan comes on around 220F.

Most of the time I am around 215 unless it is a big hill or long grade. I have seen 230 once or twice. Lots of 225.

Diesels build alot of heat that is why it is different then the 150.

What are the specs of your trailer?

Normal temps on a diesel even around town are in the 195-200 range. When towing up hills I will hit 220 easy which is the temp where the fan goes into overdrive. I've seen 230 once and that's when you get the little coolant icon on your dash. It's easily missed... it's the same green as all the other lettering around it. 230 is about 2/3's of the way to the red zone on the temp gauge and 220 is just the other side of the coolant logo on the dash gauge.

I'll say 224 is very normal on a hill and the fan usually cools things down quickly or at the least keeps the temps around 220.
