Need some clutch help

Hey guys,
First I want to say that I'm rather new to the forum(after all, this is my first post). I have been follow this section of the forum on a daily basis. Just to give you guys a little background, I have a '79 F250 with a 460, NP435, six inch suspension lift and 35's. I recently have purchased a mild built 460(.030 over and Edelbrock performer 2 top end package) and looking to install it in my gem. My question, the clutch currently in there is weak and has been burnt a few times. Being I'll be pulling the engine, I figure I'll throw a new clutch in. What do I look for in a clutch? I drive the truck on a daily basis but do go and play out in the mud on occasion. My goal is to get 500hp out of the 460 one day so I'd like a clutch that'll handle that. I've been told to go with a 3,500lb pressure plate and a six puck clutch. Correct me if I'm wrong, six puck clutch is not the greatest choice for street driving?! Any input and advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!

A puck-style clutch is intended for racing. I have always gone with Centerforce and have been very satisfied with their performance.

500 hp! HorsepowerTV on Spike recently did a budget build and it pumped out some decent numbers. Then they did a performance build on the same engine and came up with 492 hp. Look for the episode that matched up the Ford 460 vs the GM 454.

Anyone can build a bowtie but it takes a Man to build a Ford.... a Ford that didn't need a goverment rescue!!!

I saw that episode on horsepower. WHAT A JOKE!!!! The 460 was even close to what they had in the 454.

I was looking around on jegs and did find a centerforce for a reasonable price. I've looked at L&L products(WAY over priced!), Jeff's bronco graveyard, jegs, summit, o'reilys and so on. Nothing has really jumped out at me and being I have very little experience in this department, I don't know what to look for. Thanks for the advice too!

I have the exact same setup in my truck. 429/460..... L&L is extremely overpriced on everything! Only thing I've ever bought from them is their headers. Extremely heavy duty. As for the clutch, I have a RAM and love it. My motor is right around the 500hp range. If you look in my garage, there are pictures of it. It's very streetable but does well in the mud. Stay away from dual friction clutches and HD race applications. They make street driving miserable. Someone tried to talk me into a centerforce dual friction and my local speed shop guy talked me out of it and sold me the RAM. Good luck and hope this helps.
