first post but been a member for awhile, usually visit the 73-79. anyways i got a new t me 97 cc 4x4. it has rosewoods 160cc stage 1, exhaust and intake mods. you would think with these mods there would be a tuner or chip or something. where would the chip be located or how would i find out........thanks in advance
Pulling the ECU is where I would start in looking. Checking to see if there has been one attachd to the case, or if the case has been opened or moddified.
Yep, take off the E brake assymbly(3 1/2" nuts) and lay it to the side, no need to take the cable off of it. there is a hole behind there and hiding inside is your PCM. the side facing you would have the chip in it if it does have one. If you see the case and just a black plastic plug stuck in the case facing you then it does not have a chip. If you look and there is something sticking out of the case and the plastic plug is gone, then the chip is the part sticking out of the PCM. If the plastic plug is missing, but there is nothing sticking out and you just see the computer board inside the case then it has been chipped before, but it was taken out prior to sale.
got it thanks, it has been messed with cause no cover. Something sticking out looks like a dang whatcha ma callit thats in radios and stuff. not sure if its the comp. or a chip though. if it is chipped could i still put a tuner on it.
any way you can get us a picture of it? youll know if its chipped or not, if it has stage1 160cc injectors it will roll some good smoke out and put you in your seat. if it stock youll get a tiny puff out of it when getting into a good romp. a chip is only a piggy back so you can take it off and get a good custom tune on there from one of our sponsers, DP, wildman, PHP ect ect... to make that thing really rip. HOWEVER, if its been superchipped then youll have to opbtain the original superchit to take off the programming or just go to ford and have it reflashed to get the stock pcm programming back in there.
I know for sure it has stage I's and these where just put in less then two weeks ago, got the paperwork. it will roll some smoke pretty good anytime the boost comes up. what im thinking is, since these inj. where just put in that this chip (if thats what im seeing, its the green plastic thingy majig with electronic crap on it. it sticks out about a 1/4 inch or so out of the pcm) wouldnt be right as it would have been in the vehichle prior to the inj. upgrade
the little white peice in the top pic is what you should see sticking out of the pcm. that is where the selector switch connects to, if you have this style chip
I wouldnt' put a "programmer" on it. I'd go with a good custom tuned chip. If it's rolling smoke it definately has a chip in it. Without a chip, even with bigger injectors, it won't smoke much at all. It'll run like stock without a chip even with big injectors.
not entirly true Evan, if you have big injectors AND nozzels, it will make a truck smoke and actually be pretty quick. if someone wants a tranny saver id do the injectors and do a chip latter, i was so impressed the week i didnt have my chip. truck would roll coal at 65 on the highway and pull like a **** and hang 26lbs of boost! Just nozzels is an awsome upgrade to stock performance, i got fantastic mileage too. 90% highway and 10% screwing around town with the buddies i got almost 21 mpg. i left town and filled up with 15.5 gallons. i got back with 310 miles on the clock and filled up at 15 gallons and thats 20.6mpg
Hmm, interesting. Didn't think it would smoke much.
I got 22mpg driving all highway all stock except the 6637 back when I had 4.10 gears. Havn't been able to get over 19 since then, but it's mostly mixed driving or towing my boat on the highway since then.
Yep! It's not more fuel with put a chip and with nozzels just fast fuel, empties that 90cc barrel 80% faster, real nice boost in power and stock tranny safe!
Cool, good to know. I want to do nozzles later on down the road. Just don't have the money for it right now. I'll be happy with my I's for a while. I'll do nozzles after I get the ZF5 and 4x4 done.
