we found the problum
well the search for the lack of fire is over. after going crazy it was a faulty distrib cap. the cap was off by about a 16th of dead center. points and plugs where set right timing was good coil was good and we started studing the cap and found that the tab that located the cap was in a diferant place from the old one. took it back to the part store and found the entire stock was the same way. got a cap from a difrant store with the same part number and it worked. never befor have i seen this happen. drove me nuts.

Appreciate the info.; dizzy cap, would not have expected. Can't recall number of times got home and found it was not the correct part. Occasionally found the parts store resourse book does not have a listing for these ventage classics and sales person makes a best guess. It took me awhile and now always take the used part compare and inspect closely.
