i was thinkin to day with the new market for diesels and puttin the big truck wheels and tires how cool would it be to convert a 61 f-100 into a 61 f-600...i know i'd have to put a big truck front end on which wouldn't be difficult but what about me wanting to put an old international 7.3 in and where would i find the front axle?
Cornbinder (Navistar) supplied Ford with the 7.3L diesel engine, the previous 6.9L diesel, the troublesome 6.0L diesel and the 6.4L diesel, both used in 21st century trucks.
Ford has developed their own in-house 6.7L diesel which is now being installed in 2011 Super Duty's.
In 1979, International Harvester Co. (IHC) was bankrupt. Ford saved the company by providing them with up front cash and signed a contract to have them supply the 6.9L diesel first used in 1983.
IHC then became known as Navistar. Cornbinder has been a nickname for IHC/Navistar for decades, refers to all the farm equipment IHC once made.
How cool would it be to convert an F100 to an F600? It would be a MAJOR undertaking. The frame on F500 and larger trucks is much larger than in a 1/2 truck.
The brakes are different, the steering is different, the suspension is different, the front/rear axles are different, the whole tamale is different.
F100's may look like F600's, but looks can be deceiving.
You want an F600...go buy one, and forget all about converting an F100 to an F600 unless you have mega-bucks, mechanical skills beyond reason, the tools and space to make this happen, and patience...lots of it.
i really don't want it to be as substantial as a true f-600 but i wouldn't mind having the size appearance wise...it would be a daily driver and never see any hard work...i just want the f-350 front and rear axles and an early international 7.3 with a 5 speed out of a ford diesel...

You do not want F350 axles, because then you are stuck with horrid split ring wheels (most common are 19.5") that are 6 lug on a 7.25" bolt circle.
The axles are F350 only, so are the wheels. The rear axle's internal parts are F350 only. Replacement parts are difficult to find.
Ford did offer 16" wheels, but these are almost non existant.
If you want the look of an F600, install F500/750 front fenders, these bolt right on. The rest of the front end sheet metal is the same.
The Navistar 7.3L is the exact same engine as the Ford 7.3L, introduced in 1988.
