if I have one low pressure intank pump and one high pressure frame pump, can I take out my low pressure intake and replace it with a high pressure pump and still use my high pressure frame pump?
Why would you? If you're gonna convert to a '90-up fuel system, do it all the way. It's more reliable anyway. The old tank select valve is as big a problem as the old pumps, and I don't know if the old low-pressure lines could take 40-50psi anyway. Just get the whole setup from a newer truck and be done with it.
I was just going to swap sending units w/ new fuel pumps attached. I want to upgrade my pumps to something that will be able to handle more power, stock 88lph won't cut it.
The multitude of pumps and the pressure-operated select valve are known problems. The later system used a select vavle integrated into the pump so switching is automatic and much more reliable. It also simplified the fuel line routing.
Your stock pumps can handle significant power increases, but much of the rest of the engine/truck can't. Until you go MUCH bigger on the injectors, transmission, and axles, don't worry about the fuel pumps.
