'79 460 timing

I just bought a CLEAN '79 bronco with a 460 big block. it has 15,000 miles on the resoration. the engine has an performer intake and a mild cam, but im not sure what else has been done internally. i noticed it "dieseling" a little when i shut it down. not every time, but more times than not. we figured it was a timing issue and found out it is only 9 degrees advanced (from my experience, most fords run best around 12). when i went to advance the timing further, i found that the distributor is stuck and I can't figure out how to get it loose. first, any ideas on breaking it free? second, any thoughts on where i should set my timing? its a big block so i don't know if they react differently to timing or not.

Well, sounds like our engines are set up fairly similar. I think factory timing is set at 10 deg. advance. I've set mine at about 16 deg. advance. It runs better and has more power....to me. As far a freeing up your distributor, I would try some liquid wrench or something like that around the base.

ive soaked the base the past two evenings but no luck yet, but im gonna keep at it! it aint gonna fix itself! how far advanced can you run them without hurting the internals?
