well I'm coming to my wits end. i have a F350 with a 460. and the engine is having some issues. it runs and drives still. but here is the issue. it seems to hesitate/stumble when accelerating under load. it is much more pronounced when the engine is warm (at operating temp)
i have already done a tune up, tried pulling codes and received a 121 and a 233, and seeings as how 233 is non existent, I'm thinking computer issues? for 121 tps is working properly (i tested)
i recently cleaned the TB and removed the intake restrictor, this improved throttle response, and power. noticeably so. but it seems like with this it made the stumble/hesitation more pronounced.
my next thought is fuel pressure. and will be checking soon.
I'm just digging for thoughts, or maybe some one that has gone through the same thing that can point me in the right direction.
truck is a 1996 F350 with a 460 and C6(not original) 4x4
thanks
maybe a year, but it doesn't see many miles a year. most miles come in the winter plowing, but i will be checking fuel pressure this week, i have to pick up a guage, and while im out i may as well get a new filter.
Check and clean your Mass Air Flow Sensor. My wife's van was doing the same thing (it has a chevy 5.7l for what it's worth). Exact same stumbling and hesitating. Took me 2 months to finally figure out to clean the stupid sensor. Never threw a good code either. Always threw something other than a MAF Sensor Code. Finally tried the cleaning the sensor thing and with a $6 can of electronic connection cleaner it was fixed instantly. It may not fix your problem but $6 and 15 minutes may save you lots of headaches.
A few things happen when an engine is under load. Fuel demand increase - (Check fuel filter and supply pressures). The voltage required to create a spark at the spark plug increases - (check plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor and coil). Air flow demand increases - (Air filter, MAF)
For what it's worth - check the basics first. Fuel filter definitely. Plugs & HT Leads, Cap & rotor. If it is a hot wire MAF sensor, cleaning the crap of the hot wire can make quite a difference as well...
Good luck and keep us posted.
