Muffler Question

When installing just a new muffler and tip vs the entire exhaust system which is the better manufacturer... Magnaflow or Flowmaster? From most the posts I have reviewed it appears Magnaflow has limited drone at highway speeds but wt only the new muffler would the Flowmaster then be a better option for good sound?

They both have nice sound but Flowmaster would be louder.

My dad put a magnaflow in the place of his stock muffler. the muffler was the longest one available. the sound was very nice, barely heard inside the vehicle but noticeable outside

Would the drone at highway speeds be eliminated wt the Flomaster by it only being a new muffler and tip vs entire exhaust system?

No. The Magnaflow still has some drone to it but its just not as bad. I just had a Magnaflow muffler and tip put on last week and took a trip this past weekend and I heard it the entire way.

I put up a thread recently and someone posted a link of how a magnaflow muffler with tip sounds and it is right about the same for mine. We both went with keeping it like stock and dropping it out behind the tire. Cost about $200 total.

I am about to put mbrp's cat back exhaust on. Its not all that expensive about 250 for the kit. It seems to be another popular exhaust system on this site.

There is a sound bite in this thread that has the magnaflow muffler and tip only.

The exhaust system that gets you better gas mileage is like the loch ness monster. I have heard alot about it but nothing that makes me believe its real lol. Find the sound you like, put it on and enjoy.

I have a friend that swears his chevy got 2mpg better after he switched from stock to a Flowmaster 40 with dual outs.

The gains will be marginal at best even if you can resist the urge to tap the gas pedal now and again to hear the muffler.

IOf you really want to be able to see a gain of something out of an exhaust system then you would have to go to the full system of headers on back. Then you might see something that is consistent to be able to call it a gain.
