OD still flashing

I have a 99 Explorer with a 5R55E transmission. 170k miles.
About a week ago we were driving it and and the OD off light started flashing. It pulled a P1740 code. Did the research up on the Explorer forum.
So I drained the fluid and changed the TCC.

So off to work I go. Just about to work (7 miles) the OD light starts flashing. So in my wisdom. I'll run it to the dealer to see if they can pin point the problem. I'm assuming its electrical because the truck seems to drive fine.
They come back with a P0741 code. Took it out and tested the PIDS(?)
said the TCC had a 20 RPM slip and I needed a new transmission for $3600.
The truck isn't even worth that much.
Drove back to work. Still drives fine. The fluid does seem like its getting pretty hot.

So where do I go from here? Driving home the OD light is still flashing. Get home, hook up my scan tool. NO CODES, but the OD light is still flashing. Does their ECC tool give them more and different codes? My scan tool has been working fine. It pulled the p1740 code.

When I changed the fluid. There was nothing in the pan. Just the grey dust/silt. So I assume there isn't any internal damage yet? I'm thinking that its still electrical causing the TC not to lock up. There by sending a code and getting hot.

Oh yeah I did call the service manager and have a DETAILED conversation.
Looks like their just plugging the car in and playing video games. I was hoping for a detailed PIN test. Drilling down the problem.
