Hello, I have some questions for the super camper special and I guess even Trailer Special owners. I have a 1973 SCS that I just got and am getting ready to get to work on. I want to eliminate one fuel tank as it would simplify the system and eliminate additional issues. I don't need two tanks of fuel to collect moisture in a truck that won't be a daily driver. I think it would be best to get rid of the mid tank. It looks as if the rear tank is plastic. What are the tank capacities I'm hoping the rear is not any smaller than the mid? Can the rear tanks be bought if they have problems? I would get rid of the fuel valve and just run a new line from the rear tank to the pump. It would keep the fuel load centered. It would make running dual exhausts easier. This will be a low buck workin mans father of three type of project so simple and functional modifications will be in order. Any helpful replies sure would be appreciated.
Electric valve? I have a manual valve in the floor just inside the drivers door. I have a switch by the heater valve but I believe its just for switching sending units for the fuel gauge?
Checked the owners manual that came with it. It shows the manual valve being correct. The valve is even marked main, off, and auxilary. Manual shows switch by the heater controls is just for the senders to the gauge. Other interesting development is the aftermarket or custom third tank. Bear with me on this one as I haven't gotten pics yet. Outboard of the mid (aux) tank is another tank. Looks to be made of galvanized built rectangular to fit the area its in. Hoped it was a freshwater tank for a camper. Unfortunately I found a small line brazed or soldered from one tank to the other on the lower rear of one tank to the other. From the factory aux inside the frame to the aextra one outside the frame. From up inside the wheelwell on top of the extra tank is a small valve with a short rubber hose just run into a crossmember that would have to be a vent. I didn't think this would be a fuel tank as there was no filler for it. I guess the crossover line handles that.
