I would lile to replace the AC Clutch of my 2003 Ford Ranger. It is a FS-10 compressor. I can only find the tools for the FS-6. Does anyone know where I can buy the tools to remove/install an AC Clutch for an FS-10 with out buying a whole mech's kit?
Thank you Steve. I already looked at these sets. None of them say they are fore the FS-10. Unless I am missing something. Is the FS-10 compatible with another model?
You can buy the tools or Do what i do an 8mm socket for the center bolt and large pair of channel locks to hold the clutch face while loosening the center bolt. a pair of snap ring pliers curved if you are changing this on the vehicle. Remove bolt pull clutch face by hand make sure and find and keep track of all the spacing washers. Remove the snap ring holding the belt pulley on. Most of times you can remove the pulley by hand but not always so if you can't here is where you will need a small puller it doesn't take much. The voice coil you can just pry off with a large screw driver. I bump the voice coil back on with a piece of brass drift make sure the connector lines up with the correct notch in the housing. clean the pulley hub The pulley will go back on by hand install snap ring. Install spacing washer(s) in clutch face and slip it on. Here you need to check the air gap and adjust spacers as necessary.
^^ That's the way it's done. ^^ No special tools needed.
I usually clamp across the clutch plate and pulley with regular Channel Locks to loosen the bolt.
If the clutch plate is stuck, you can "nudge" it with 2 small screwdrivers in the clutch gap 180* apart. It's a slip fit, but can stick from age, dirt, etc.
If it takes more than ~15 minutes to replace the whole assembly, you took a beer break in there somewhere.
