Cab swapping
I'm looking to do a cab swap...1965 body onto an 87-91 F350 4x4 pickup chassis. I NEED my beloved 65 back! Sorry, but these square trucks don't do much for me, I only drive it because I LOVE the engine.
Last winter I read a thread about someone trying to install a 65 cab onto an 86 and they had fitment problems. Wheels were sitting too deep in the fenders I think.
I've also read a thread in the 73-79 section where a guy put a 70's crew cab body onto a '97 Superduty chassis, and it looks great.
I think I'm gonna try this cab swap. I was going to bolt my 65 cab onto a 78/79 chassis and stuff my IDI in there. But I'm a newbie with a welder, so I'll try my luck at welding body mounts rather than pay a welder to do new engine mounts. New cab mounts and radiator mounts and give myself a 2 or 3" body lift to fit a bigger downpipe. Kill a few birds with the same stone.
I know this thread isn't exactly relevant to the IDI engine, and I apologize, but it was in this forum that I read about the cab swap. I remember it was actually a guy in the midwest, and they had abandoned the project many years ago.
Thanks fellas!
I think I've read that the radiator core support is going to need some major tweaking, so I'm thinking/hoping a 3" or so body lift would cut down on core support modifications, and would help that downpipe fit in there. Even though I don't even have a turbo right now, NOW is the time to make the body lift!
Here's that 79 crew I was talking about, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-96-frame.html
