I have a 68 f250 ranger camper special w/auxillary tank. I have been trying so hard, without luck, to find what the original stock exhaust looked like. I posted some months ago and a few people were kind enough to try and explain how the muffler went vertical instead of lying flat and I understand that, but I have heard and seen too much that conflicts with each other. I am hoping that a new post will give me some more concrete info.
Here it goes:
1) Is there dual exhaust on this truck?
2) If so, did the pipes run down the passenger side?
3) Where did the tips exit, the sides, the rear, or point down?
If someone had any pictures of some examples or even an exhaust diagram that would be really helpful. I will be getting new exhaust next week and want to get it as close to stock as I possibly can.
Well to begin with, there was no dual exhaust option, only a single very restrictive system. I believe this is one reason why Ford had a bad rep on burning exhaust valves.
So the game is wide open. I have a '68 CS and ran my duals in tandem down the passenger side with turbo muffs standing up. The stock logs have 2 1/4" exits so I stuck with 2 1/4" pipe. The chrome tips exit behind the RR tire at the same angle as the stock one did, looks and sounds cool! Make sure you have the spare tire underneath when getting the job done if you go this route.
I'd like to emphasize what Barry said re the spare tire. I had to take mine back to get the pipes adjusted to clear the tire. Anyhow, if you would like photos of mine, email me here through the group. I posted my email here once and lived to regret it.

Find the post by Gtex that has the pics of the truck he bought in California. It has pics of the underside of the truck. It has the auxilliary tank and what looks to be a custom dual exhaust system the has the pipes exit in front of each rear tire. I will try to find it an post the link. Here it is : http://www.thedreyerfamily.com/67F250.htm
Looks like the pipes run outside the frame.
My 68 Ranger had the extra tank, and the PO put dual exhaust on, crossing the driver side pipe over to the pass. side, right under the shallow part of the oil pan. Kinda makes me nervous to have that much heat cooking my oil.
I have a 69 f100 with the 360 in it and the oringal exhaust is still on it. the exhaust does exit the right rear and the muffler is round, the truck is a true 43,000 mile truck from mich thats been stored since 1980.
Glad I could help scott, say would you know where i could pick up the chrome trim for my dash. its the one that goes around the glove box??? I need the clips mostly.
