Front end conversion

Just a thought for a project after I get some bugs worked out of the truck. Is it possible to put 93-96 body style front end on a 89 model truck? If so what does it take? Just a matter of bolting on the newer fenders, hood, grill, etc..?

Yes it is possible to do this swap. If you have a donor truck just take off the parts and swap. Nothing is the same between the different years. Core support, cowl, hood, fenders, grill, lights, bumper, etc are all different. One problem you may run into is with the bumper. The 92-96 at some point got the safety frame, and the 91 and older have a "normal" frame. So you might run into issues mounting the bumper. I can't say for sure as I haven't gotten that far with my 89 F350 rebuild, but I am doing the same thing. I do have a donor truck to get all the parts off of though.

What are you doing with your 89? Mine is also a 89 F350. Is yours a SRW or DRW? I have a DRW. Looking for some ideas to do to mine as soon as I figure out whats going on with the front tank. You have any pics of your build?

Ha Ha, that's funny. My front tank is dead too.

Mine is an 89 F350 XLT Lariat SRW 460 ZF 5spd 4X4, red inside and out(for now). My 95 F150 was totaled a couple of months back so I am taking the entire front clip & doors off of it and putting it on the F350. I am doing a frame up rebuild of the truck. It will be my work/farm truck. Steel flat dump bed, tool boxes under the bed. Lots of things I want to do to it over the winter. Every nut and bolt will be coming off and gone over before it is put back into service. It spent its life as a farm truck, and looks the part. At some point a cow used the drivers door as a scratching post, needless to say it does not shut right anymore.

Right now I have been spending most of my time taking the F150 apart. I am drilling out the spot welds and taking the cab apart to use the sheet metal to fix problems on the F350's cab. Then I will be ordering a complete floor and putting that in. Sealing up everything to prevent rust and repainting it the same green as the F150. Lots and lots of work, but at least it will be built to MY specs when done.

I'll have to see what pics I have.

What ideas do you have for yours?

Well I have all kinds of detail pics of before and during, but not much in the way of general pics.

This is the truck before I started to do anything to it.

This is a shot when the bed came off.

Right now I have the flat bed on for a "test fit". I have had to shift priorities around sense the F-150 was totaled, so I haven't been working on it much. Most of my time has been working on the F-150 itself and dealing with all the bs from the accident.

I have a couple of pics up of the F-150 on photobucket if you want to look at it, also the dark green color is what the F-350 will be painted.

Front End swap

You will need the fenders, hood, radiator core, bumper and windshield cowl panel from the newer truck, the existing inner fenders will work. You will also need to swap the pins around on the headlight plugs and add a lead for the running light on the 92 up front end. You will also need to make brackets for the bumpers as 92 up used a complete different frame horn. Also, I would suggest looking for a complete clip off of a diesel model with a good radiator. You get a much larger radiator and dual battery trays that way.
