Like trying to find a unicorn
I've been searching for a 96/97 F250 crew cab short bed 7.3 for over a year. The only ones I find are 200,000+ miles and clapped out or 460's. I figured eventually i would find the grandpa truck i've been looking for but i'm realizing it might not exist. And i do understand that there is no point to this thread but i just needed to whine about it for a little bit

When you find one
A. you have to be quick to strike(and willing to travel)
B. be willing to pay top dollar for the most demanded combination truck out there.
I just sold mine for 25k

I understand and agree. I don't mind paying for what i want its just finding what i want. A dealer has a clean white one with 209k for 15k that looks like its been taken care of but looks don't mean much when you can't talk to the previous owner and am I wrong to think that's too much

I think that is to much to pay for one of these trucks but that is what they go for which is why I don't have one yet. I would love to get one but I have a hard time paying that much for a used truck that is 20 years old. I remember when you could pick these up for 8-10,000 all day long with 200,000 miles on them. Wish I would have picked up 4 or 5 of them then!

just because others do it (overspend drastically on an item that's depreciated in value) should never help you justify making the same mistakes of others.
imo,no.your not wrong in thinking his asking price is too much.i think you know it's too much and that's the main reason why you haven't bought it.smart.
when (not if) someone else buys it,don't feel bad you missed out.feel wise and financially more responsible than the person who bought is.

Agreed with above. I know OBS Fords are great trucks, I've owned them for years. However, you're not buying an investment hoping the value will increase so you can sell it at Mecum Auctions.
You're trying to find a solid work truck. There's no reason to pay that kind of money for what amounts to an "old truck".
Those prices have a way of making the early-mid 2000's trucks look better and better.

Well I'm in no hurry. My truck now is a 2010 thats paid for so the search continues. One thing that got me thinking though is how can anyone get a loan for one of these? I'm sure a bank won't give a 15k loan on a truck that KBB and NADA value at 8-9k.
Broncoderek.... I'm with ya, the 98-03's with a 7.3 are looking better and better

I don't even have a credit card and don't finance anything. I make enough to pay cash for my toys but i still don't sit on 15k but I do have enough to cover the difference between selling price and KBB . The loan would be closed out as soon as I sold my current truck

Any reason you're bent on a short bed? I found long bed trucks all over a few years ago when I was looking. The hard part still is finding one that isn't BTS. The engines may go 300k, but the rest of the truck isn't the engine. A truck is more than its engine.
For the prices mentioned above, you may as well look at a newer truck. But if you can stand to wait, do it. It took me 3 years to find my car (IS300 Sportcross, only 3066 made over 5 years) and I think it was worth it. If you want a 96/97 CCSB, look at every listing service every day, and get some cash put away. If you don't have cash, somebody else will and they'll get the truck.
