9 inch rear

Hey everyone! Quick tech question -- Running a 429 with a C6 in my 56, putting in a 9 inch rear end running 2.75 gears. This is getting attached to the frame via a 4 link kit by TCI. After setting things in place I am noticing that the drive shaft from the tranny to the rear end is slightly off centered. Is this normal?? And would there be any issues if the drive shaft is not centered?? Anyone else run this set-up and have some suggestions?? Thanks!

It won't be a problem to have the diff offset to one side. As long as your crank shaft and pinion angles are parallel with each other, but not directly in line, you'll be fine.

Yes, that is normal. The reason that rear differentials are offset is to eliminate vibration in the drive line. When installing, care must be taken to ensure that the horizontal angle at the differential equals the horizontal angle at the transmision yoke. This also applys to the vertical angle at both locations. If the angles don't match you will experience driveline vibration. This type of vibration is sometimes hard to diagnose because we automatically tend to think wheel bearings or unbalanced wheels or universal joint failure. Hope this answers your question......Got pics of that 429?......I'm running one in my Cobra.

Please explain this? The key thing is that the pinion and output shaft are parallel, whether they are in line with one another or offset.

This is one of the best explanations I've ever seen.
