i own a 95 psd 2wd,as far as i know the trans is original, but not sure.is there any way to tell? also what goes out on the E4OD?does it start to slip or what?the truck has just under 80k on her.thanks jack k
It depends on how it's dying. With mine, I've gone through 4 transmissions in 4 years. Every time mine dies, it ends up being my torque converter taking a crap and spewing metal all through my trans. Once I had no 2nd gear so I had to work around it to get home, and the other times, the trans just wouldn't hold either 4th or 5th under a load.
If it feels like you have a shutter at shifts, you torque converter may be going out and you can buy yourself time by going to a local parts store and get the fluid that helps with "torque converter shudder" and goes into your trans. It will not fix it, but could buy you some time.
My suggestion to anybody with a heavy duty truck, go to the dealer and get a re-manufactured unit thru them that comes with a 100k mile \ 3 year warranty.
