so Ive herd alot about people always needing to replace coil packs on the triton engines.
i have an 06 250 with the 5.4 3v. 151k miles. I had the spark plugs done about a year agon and the dealer said I shuld replace the boots at the same time but declined due a tight wallet.
well now i am having issues when the truck is going up hill in a high gear, it feels lke the engine skips and send s a suttle jolt through the cab like i hit a small crack in the road. I have done all my flters ad such so i dont think its fuel related. No problems at idle or if it down shifts.
should i just replace all the coils or try just boots? and if the coils do get replaced should i go preformance or dealer stock?
I just had the same issue. Ended up being a coil pack was shot and was replaced. Now it purrs like a kitten. This is my 3rd Triton motor and each time I have had a pack go bad I have had the boots replaced, on all the packs, not just the one that was shot.
If your engine is missing you will find pending codes when scanned for error codes. Most auto parts stores will scan your vehicle for free, but make sure they can scan for pending codes before you spend any money.
