Here is a couple pics of a dash pad we painted with Rustoleum flat or semi vinyl paint for my son's '80. This was a tan pad, and just a couple little cracks to fix. Got it at Pic-a-Part for $25. Just click on the thumbnails.

Looks actually really really good. I can't even tell the difference. That's impressive how that stuff works, and it's a dash pad too.

I prefer not to see my dash pad in my windshield when I'm driving, but that's just me. I'm also one of those people that would rather drive alone than with someone because having someone else really close to you is almost a distraction and an annoyance on the road.

I think I'll go with the flat because it makes it look a bit more retro.
That's what I am saying, I wouldn't want it glossy either. I was saying there is a reason the factory does not use a gloss finish. They do not want the shining dash to reflect onto the windshield potentially distracting the driver. Go flat or at the most semi-gloss. My '88 Ranger dash is as flat as flat comes.

Ah, yes. Now I see what you meant. I'd have to agree, something in the windshield is distracting. Thanks for the tips.

I agree, semi gloss is prob. the best match of the oem sheen on the panels. It's not flat for sure.
