I have a couple question, but i'm not sure if this is correct place to do so.
Anyways I own a 98 X and the 4 wheel isn't woking. I had the dealer check it out and they told me it was the transfer case motor.
So I bought it and began to change it. Now the NEW motor has a plug with 14 holes (7w/wires & 7w/o/wires) the OLD one has ALL 14 holes withs wires coming out of them.
SO my question is how do I go about changing it ? (oh one more thing I have the right part I check with 2 different dealers.)
Also the light on the dash doesn't come on when I turn it to 4x4.
Sounds like you may not have a bad motor at all. Was the light not working before? It could be the fuse. Ther is a fuse in the fuse panel that runs the 4x4 system, there is also a relay. check your owners manual, but I'm pretty sure it's #5. The 4x4 light should come on regardless, it might not stay on, it should flash if there is a problem. Also, there has been another thread that I started, my A4WD is flashing, the 4hi and 4lo work fine. There were a couple of replies to this thread, one of which said that the factory packed alot of grease into the switch. He suggested pulling the switch out and cleaning with contact cleaner, then re-grease with white lithium and reassemble and reinstall. His symptoms went away, and he hasn't had any problems. I haven't had time to try this to mine yet, but will be trying it as soon as possible. If you do have to change the motor in the transfer case, I would suggest purchasing a Haynes manual, and follow directions carefully. It doesn't look too difficult to replace, but the book goes into detail on how to do it! Hope this has helped!
I just noticed in the snow and ice this morning that my front end is not pulling when in 4WD. The lights come on, but the front hubs don't seem to lock in. Is this a quick fix or an expensive fix (short of putting manual hubs on)?
