Okay wondering if I'm the only one who does dumb things. My AC has been not so efficient since the heat wave hit Oklahoma, 98 to 101 most days. While driving on Hwy it was accepable but idling it was just barely cool. Been meaning to check it out for weeks but with the heat and other projects just hadn't got the time. Well today got up early and decided to take a quick look while it was early and cooler. Lifted hood and looked around for about 2 minutes and there was the heater valve vacuum line laying loose. During installation of coolant filter several months ago I disconnected it and just forgot about it. Reconnected it and works great now..guess I should have looked sooner...pretty dumb Huh??
My dumbest thing that comes to mind (at least that I'm going to admit) was forgetting to installing the drain plug after draining the oil and installing 14 qts of oil before realizing I had my head up my a$$.
I was at the barn (offsite) and had to call my wife to pick me up so I could purchase more oil so I could complete the job. This was about 4 years ago and I still think about that episode everytime I change the oil.
I have to admit, it's hard to resist the urge to turn a wrench to change the oil on my truck, but I'll never make that mistake again.

I did that also, only with 2 quarts and a fourwheeler, but it still sucks to watch good oil and money get wasted, i triple check the drain plug before i put the oil in now.
Try spinning a hunk of carbide in a fly cutter about 6000rpm on a Bridgeport and watching it leave the fly cutter and bury said carbide 1x2 inch in the cement wall to my right. That what happens when you teach yourself how to run a Bridgeport. Thank you Jesus for letting me learn more cool things.
Mine stopped working on the X. Got the yellow warning lite. So I buy a replacement bumper sensor and replaced the exiting sensor in each location with the new one ($45). No joy! So I replaced the control module ($312). No joy! So I bought 3 more bumper sensors ($135) and replaced the remaining old ones. No joy! So then I made an adapter that I could plug into each bumper sensor plug and check the wire harness back to the control module plug. All the wiring rang out OK. So now I'm pissed! So I replaced the dash switch ($30). No joy! Now I'm really pissed! Over $500 spent and the damn thing still does not work. So I'm reading on the X forum about this guy who replaced the PAS speaker. Man did I feel like a dumb a**. As soon as I read that I knew that was the problem. So another $30 later for a new speaker and the PAS works great. What made me so angry is I always eliminate the easy stuff first whenever I troubleshoot anything. Buy not adhereing to my basic troubleshooting processes, I cost myself over $500 plus a very wounded pride.
Anyone need 4 good PAS bumper sensors and or a control module? The dash switch did not survive the removal process.
Ok, I think I got all y'all beat here. I was installing the FASS fuel system on my truck. Stupid me, I forgot to plug the old return line. Now that return line is no longer hooked up to the tank, so when it got filled with fuel and the fuel went to drain, it drained out the back of the truck all over the tailgate, all over the road. Now when I look back on it, I was kinda wondering why someone behind me had their windshield wipers going when there wasn't a cloud in the sky and their glass didn't look like it was a bug graveyard either.
Changed the oil in my truck, forgot to remove the drain pan from under the truck before pulling out of the garage. So when I pulled out I ran over the drain pan and exploded it all over the garage and myself because my window was down.
All in all, oil is taken outside now BEFORE I move the truck in fear of another greasy shower and lots of clean up and cat litter.
I replaced a radiator in my old bronco II back in the late 90's. Went to back it up a foot or so to check for leaks on dry ground. Well I backed up with the door open and caught the door on my car port post. It yanked the door out of my hand and bent it up against the front fender. Had to get a new door out of that one and the paint didnt match. Black door, red vehicle.
Nothing to do with my 6.0 But I decided to test my generator about a month ago which hasn't been started in 3 years. Fueled it up; choked it; pulled and pulled and pulled the cord for don't know how long and no start. Temp was in the upper 90's sweated my a$$ off. pulled the plug; checked for spark; Than I looked and forgot to turn on the fuel valve. Man was I pissed...Laugh Now..
When I came home from my year tour in Korea, when I went to start my truck, I could tell by the exhaust noise something was wrong. I had a CEL that would come on and off, and the thing drove like CRAP. After some rooting around under the hood, I found my MAF sensor unplugged. The rig had been at my dad's place, and he didn't unplug it. The only other place it had been over the time I was gone was the Ford dealership where it went for hail damage repair. Now, I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, but I'm pretty sure hail damage has nothing to do with a MAF sensor. Of course, I paid them a visit and asked WTF, and they denied everything. Sounds to me like they hoped I was too stupid to find it, and they would get a service charge out of me. Stupid on several levels, if ya ask me.
Try changing your oil and not slamming the hood all the way down. Boy howdy it's hard to see when the hood flies up going 65 mph down the highway. Got two nice big dents in the hood on that one and almost a pair of dirty undies.
