I need to replace the original tank on my 55 and was looking at those polyethylene tanks on e-bay. Is anyone using these? I'm also looking at the stock steel ones at LMC but not sure which way I should go. Appreciate any tips or words of wisdom. Steve
I live 120 miles from LMC so shipping not a issue. I drove up to get it with other parts. I bought one of their tanks and a gas sending unit adapter from mid 50's to allow a newer sending unit to mount on the original tank hole.
Tank seems well constructed and fit like the original one. Been using it for a year and no issues.

Thanks Larry. Are they painted or lined to prevent corrosion?
The exterior is painted black and the interior is lighter colored and coated in something. It's not shiny metal inside.
I have lots of friends with old cars they seldom drive and most of them have switched to the plastic tanks since they eliminate any chance of rust in the future.
So that's kinda both sides I guess
