How ya'll doin! Names Tim and I'm a ford owner! ha ha sounds like an AA meeting or something!
This is the FIRST ford truck I have ever owned. Have had many dodges and loved everyone of them, just decided to step outside the box (and the price was right ha ha )
Anyhoo.... the facts
truck: 1995 f250 supercab 4WD
engine:460 v8 EFI (hungry bugger) was expected tho
trans: Auto
Mileage: 121700 miles (194720 clicks for the metric peeps)
So, the main question is...more power! how to get it!?
I must say I'm a lil disappointed in the performance for an engine of that massive size!
did a tune up and it's much better but not right yet IMHO...
Has anyone tried the hypertech chip # 458231. I guess it supposed to work with the OBD 1 system on these trucks.
Cold air intake and exhaust upgrades, what have ya'll done in that area.
I guess I just need to know everything there is to know about these monsters and what to look out for. I thank you all in advance for any help and advise...
Have a GREAT day!
Timbo
Chips and cold air intakes are garbage, your truck has a effective CAI on it from the factory. Long tube headers will make a world of difference, try bumping the timing to about 14 deg. from the stock 10 deg. If you still need more, there are cams available that will work well with the factory EFI, and take you well into the 300+ hp range without changing anything else.
If you are expecting drag racing performance, go back to a 1500 dodge with a hemi. This is a real TRUCK.......when you hitch up to 12.000lbs and leave the dodges and Chevy's behind, you will know what that means.
Good luck with your Ford, and welcome to FTE!
Ha ha ha thats good! never had a hemi dodge... You got me laughin there. I sure appreciate the advise. I'll get right on that. Was readin some other pages here and forgot about fuel filter, fuel pump pressure etc. So I am going to check all that! thanks again...I think I found the right ford site!
I've been readin also about duals verses single exh. Single I'd go 3" duals (was planning 2.5" with x pipe etc.) any thoughts on this?
Thx

3in single with a high flow cat. is all you need even with headers, these trucks with their fuel tank config. are less than easy to run duals other than both out the pass. side of the truck.
I agree. Dont waste your money on CAI, KN, chips, TB spacers, snake oil plugs etc. The factory intake is already a good design. Some good flowing exhaust with a straight through muffler and some headers will help it. I also agree about bumping the timing a little. A cam is also a good idea, but I don't like to open up a good running motor with some miles on it.
thanks everyone...appreciate the input, as for getting in the engine. I've always been one to put new timing chain sets on trucks that I bought in the past over a certain mileage. so if I gotta yank all that stuff outta the way may as well throw the cam in while I'm at it.
Guess I forgot, check for codes.........could be something there that will help if repaired.
Catalytic conv, may be suspect at your mileage as well, that will really hold you back.
just doing a tune up makes my truck feel totally different. plugs, wires, oil, all filters, cap, rotor, you get the picture. i bet i gained 40-50 hp from all that. or i guess returned it to its origional power from its weakened state.
