Ok, we had our fire department meeting last night and found out that we can get a chassis going through the state's bids. The info a guy had there was showing that the Diesel was the 7.3 instead of the 6.0. If we go with a diesel that's what I'd preferr since there are bugs with the 6.0 yet. I was wondering if anybody knew if the 7.3 was available on fleet orders. I checked on Ford's Fleet website and it showed it only available if ordered before 11/01/2002 or something like that. If anybody knows I'd sure appreciate the info. But also, is the V10 available also? They claimed it wasn't. I'm wondering if the state has a bunch of trucks sitting around already with the 7.3 in it. Another thing is that the spec sheet showed the new torqueshift auto. A lot of things didn't jive with what I'd learned from visiting different sites and reading things. Another one was the trailer tow mirrors, which I understand are standard on chassis cab but it showed a 300 dollar option, and the cab to axle was only 56 instead of 60 like a chassis/cab. If somebody could offer some info I'd really appreciate it.
If it has the new auto, then it's a 6.0 PSD. That is the only engine to get the new tranny. Both 5.4 & 6.8 gassers still get the "old" 4R100. New tranny won't bolt to old 7.3, according to Mark- and he should know!
Thanks for the input. I got to thinking more about that and think the spec sheet was screwed up. I guess I'll have another reason to use to convince them the V10 would be good enough. The guy claimed the V10 wasn't available but I don't see why it wouldn't be, considering I went to the dealer I bought mine from today and they didn't have a problem with, and if I'd had a fleet number they could have figured out the cost for me with the government benifits. I didn't get a price though cause the guy who knows about the rebates and other such offers wasn't there and won't be back untill Monday. Again, thanks for the info.
