I have a 09 f150 with factory 17" rims, I bought factory 20" rims with factory tires on them, so why is the toms showing faulty now? Shouldn't all the factory rims have the sensors on them? If I find a reset tool for the tpms and reset the system will this fix my problem?
After reading the owners manual, I believe it's a 5 minute job for the dealer to reset it. but that's after using a spare.
Going to a larger tire might require a more complicated reset. I personally would have the shop do it, probably not expensive.
Don't know what you mean by "the tool" I think it might take a re-cal as well for the larger tires.
Well, others will know for sure.
I am interested though since I plan to go to larger tires after wearing out the stocks.
I bought a set of 06 XLT wheels to put on my 07.I also bought the bands and 2 sided sticky tape online.I had my local Ford dealer change the rims, add the new bands to my newer rims, and reset the TPMS ($60).The tech holds a hand held gadget to the tire, presses a button, and the horn blows when the TPMS is reset.Takes about 5 seconds per tire.
If the TPMS reset device didn't come with your truck (mine didn't, but some do), you can get one off EBay pretty cheap. That's where I got mine. Then it's simple to re-program the TPMS sensors on all four wheels.
