Used mine today to haul some branches from the trees we had to cut up from two storms. Noticed cruising at 40mph with the window down 1/4 of the way the 7.3 was inaudible.
Well, let me tell you, it was tough. I had to take a mold of the original, then modify it to get it deeper, then I had to find the complex petrochemical mix to make the plastic just right...
...or I just cheated and bought one from a 2003:

I got mine for $29 from my local dealer. MANY reps to ExxWhy for getting the part number!
What's the trick to removing the stocker? Felt like I was going to break it.
I opened the console lid, then on the edge of the cupholder (where the forward edge of the console ends in the pics above), pull out (to the driver or passenger door depending on what side you are pulling) and up slightly...you should hear a pop...then pull the back edge of the cup holder on that same side.
They are held on by little tabs that grip the outside of the console, so if you can visualize 2 square holes on either side of the cupholder, you need to flex the cupholder "out" to get those tabs out of the holes.
Thanks. I'm installing my '03 dash cupholder in the a.m., now I need to order the console cupholder. I suppose I could figure out the removal if I had a new one in hand but I like to get things sorted first anyway. Thanks again.
Just a little gentle prying on either side and it pops right out. You'll see the tabs that hold it in when you have the new one in hand, literally a 30 second job. Big improvement.
