What did you do to the X today?
Brought the beast in to the shop for a new adjustable front track bar, WARN hubs, front bearings, transaxle and transmission service. Found out that it had been locked in 4x4 for only God knows how long even though it was set to auto and the switch in 2WD. That definitely explains the crappy gas mileage. Now to plan out the next items on the to-do list.

May have appeared to be in 4x4 but if it wasn't fully engaging then technically it wasn't in. You would felt it in 4x4 fully engaged when you were turning on bare pavement. I'm sure you improved some things I just don't see how it was driven that long in 4x4.
Awesome though that you got it all fixed how's it feel?
Interesting I drive with my hubs turned and locked on both of my trucks never seemed to notice any mpg issues. That's Excursion and my F350, one has electronic switch which is Ex and my F350 has shift on floor. I believe this discussion came up while back and I thought I remember it made no difference.

Exactly, was only getting about 7ish for the past few weeks.
Was feeling what seemed like just extra tightness when turning and seemed to have less power. I thought it was just that the hubs and bearings were worn and almost shot. Didn't realize I let them get that bad. Feels a lot better, now gotta flush the steering fluid. Mech said it was looking bad, so I took a look... I feel bad like I've been neglecting this ole girl.

Chris let me know when you drive it more and able to calculate the mpg. I'll need to come down soon and drive it see how it feels Though in two weeks I'll be out on the deep blue sea for 6 weeks so maybe when I return.
When my auto hubs failed, only one of them stayed locked. It was causing a strange vibration at certain speeds. Once I figured it out and replaced with Mile markers, my vibration was gone. It isn't much extra friction considering what the ex has to overcome to move itself, but it isn't free to turn that front end either. It uses more fuel even if you can barely tell.
Yea, bro, you should! Be safe out there while you're out!

Hey don't forget I'm referring to my wife's V10 which I also run with hubs locked in. That's why I'm interested in the actual mileage calculation and if it's significant because if it is I'll switch hers off.
Fair point brother. Since I know she doesn't usually drive much. I'll fill up on Tuesday, run the week with the hubs unlocked. Fill up and run a week locked then post the results in the MPG thread. That should give some honest results to the question. Plus I'm sure Stew wouldn't mind us moving this to the proper place
