AB
1997 FORD F-150, 4.2L V6 4x2 with rear ABS.
Work done on it so far: Replaced plugs, fuel filter and prake pads. Intake gaskits were replaced by previous owner in 2008.
OK Replaced front brake pads, re-bled all four wheels starting from Rear Right, the rear left. Blead 10 or 11 times each until clean fluids appeared without any bubbles.
Results: About 5 percent improvement but still spongy and ABS and brake lights still ON. I don't know what else to do beside taking it to a mechanic.
Please advise.
Thanks
After searching this forum some more, I stumbled upon a 250 thread with the same problem. I knew I don't have front ABS sensor because I did'nt see any. So I checked the rear one and sure enough, it is on top of the differential. It is connected to a wire and 12mm bolt facing towards the front of the truck. I pulled it out. It takes some patient to pull it out. So I checked for resistance. It is magnetic and it read 1.11 so I cleaned it with electrical cleaners and then used high quality silicon spray on the connector part and installed it again.
Fired up the truck and no more ABS light staring at me. Hopefully this solves it. I will update after I drive some more.
So here is my experience on these Fords thus far. People tend to drive them without usual TLC. Up-till now most of my electrical problems were solved with either WD-40, electrical cleaner or silicon grease. It appears the grease used by Ford is not of a high quality and uses its function after 20 years.
Now the switch on top of the brake master cylinder has some brake fluid in it and the Cruise Control does not work.
Question: Should I go ahead and replace it with a new one along with the fuselink?
I don't know what else to do. The brakes after bleeding two times are still spongy. Please help.
Thanks very much
Spoke to a guy at Ford dealer and he said that unplug the battery negative for about 5 minutes to reset the code or erase the code. Did that but no luck:
I don't know what else to do. Please help.
