Exhaust rotted off AGAIN!
Well gang, I bought a (sigh) dynomax exhaust system for my truck almost 4 years ago and hated how it sounded from day one!
The muffler lasted 2 years if that before it was completly blown out. Keep in mind I do about 10,000 miles a year with my truck, back and forth to work 20 miles a day. I ended up buying a 40 series single in/dual out flowmaster muffler and was able to salvage enough pipe to reinstall the old exhaust. I wasnt impressed with the sound of that muffler either, but it did the job.
Well today when I am driving home it seems like the exhaust got LOUDER, yup the pipes rotted off the muffler as well as the front extension pipe.
I dont have enough money to buy a stainless exhaust nor do I like the sound of any of the companies I found that offer them. The truck has a much better sound sans muffler, but I am worried about damaging my motor by not running a muffler.
What do you think?
You might damage an engine if you run it with open exhaust ports (no intake manifold) because the hot exhaust valve will be briefly exposed to cool air, which may cause the valve to cool unevenly and warp......that's the theory anyway, but I have never seen it.
