Ford only started making factory crew cabs in 1965, however prior to that there were some conversion companies that would take trucks and make them into crew cabs. As far as the 50s go, I think that was before even the conversion companies. However, some do exist; they would all be home made, though. There are a few pictures floating around the internet, and if I'm not mistaken, a few members on here have even tried (or are currently trying) to whip some up.
As noted they were used by railroad and others. friend of mine has one that he is redoing. Ive known the truck for 30 yrs when we hauled it out of a junk yard. Was org. a ton, but is being redone as 1/2 ton, volare, with 351 W.
That is beautiful!!! I wanted to build one about ten years ago, so I did a little research. The info I found was that 700 were build for the 'railroad'. They only had three doors. The only picture I have seen before today showed three gas tanks, two under the running boards with a filler on each side like the 53-55, and one in the cab as 56s do. If i still have the pic, I will post it in my garage--not enough posts to add attachments.
That's interesting, I never knew a 3-door existed back in the day.
I've seen a few conversions and looked into doing it myself. The answer is a whole lot of work, probably more work than most everything else combined. Basically you put two cabs together and make a custom roof and floorboards. A couple members have done it, if you're real serious about it message Keith, he did it to his '56.
