I think the '$50 paint job' should be called the '$50 in paint, 120 hours in labor'. Even if you think your time is worth $10/hr, you have now spent the equivalent of $1250 on a paint job with sub-par paint with not so great UV protection.
$98 roller paint job! This is where I got my inspiration of trying a roller paint job but ended up getting a "normal" paint job instead. lol. It was way too much work.
it only took me prob 8 hours doing 5 coats and if you add up the time for a paint shop its atleast 4 or 5 with prime and prep with roll on theres no prime the rustoleum will stick to anything...its a cheap good looking alternative... sure if i had the money i woould have payed 700 bucks to have someone spray it but i dont have much and it turns out nice
To pull off a roller job successfully, you'll need an enclosed building, time, and patience. Sure it's cheap but you gotta lay down lots of layers with lots of wet sanding in between sets of coats. Then it has to be buffed.
Have you considered Summit's single-stage of base/clear system? It's relatively inexpensive and should provide a really good paint job if (and only if) the body is properly prepared. Remember, bodywork is 90% of the end quality.
Alternatively, what about Earl Scheib? With the proper prep (and buying the guys a case of beer), their paint jobs can come out looking decent IFYOU remove everything that can be removed instead of them masking it off. They're a production shop where time is money so masking isn't their strong point.
I spent considerable time debating whether to do a roller job my F-100 but the pros and cons weighed against it cuz, while I have the equipment to shoot color, I have no access to a garage in which my truck would fit. I do have a garage but my F-100 rides on 35s with a 4-inch lift. After patching rust holes, a wheel arch, and other repair, I used Krylon's camouflage paints and I like it alot. For $90, it worked for me.
for $50 you absolutely cant beat it it looks good u dont have to worry about runs, or being uneven or paying someone to do it... i would post a pic of mine if i knew how to...i dont regret mine at all and you get the pride of doing it yourself .... very very easy to do i used rustoleum
you rolled your's?? if so please post pics i'd love to see them.. you can upload them at tinypic.com and past them in here or email them to me at mustang-dude@live.com and i'll post them up for ya... thanks
I rolled mine and have no regrets. I was tired of the primer flash rusting all the time so I bought 2 gals of rustoleum and painted it. Its not perfect but it will do. I have more pressing financial obligations than cosmetics for my truck.

Here's how to do it:
Use the "go advanced" setting when posting pictures. Click on the little picture with the mountains (if you hover over, it says, "insert image").
Copy the Direct Link URL from your photobucket picture and paste it into the little window that comes up when you click the little picture with the mountains on it.
